Bareboat Charters

Bareboat charters are ideal for qualified sailors who want to explore our sailing area and create their own itinerary.
It’s a very affordable way to sail in Greece with your family or friends and experience the Greek seas in the wheel of your own yacht!

1.What is a bareboat charter?

A bareboat charter is renting a yacht, without hiring a professional captain. This means that you will be in charge of boat handling, sailing and mooring. Those charters are normally preferred by experienced sailors, who want to sail their own, tailor-made itinerary and explore a region in their own way.

2.What qualifications do I need to charter a bareboat?

The Greek Authorities require at least one member of the crew, registered as captain, to have a valid sailing license and at least one member to have some experience, registered as co-captain (the experience can be proved by signing a solemn declaration). The license must be in English or translated in Greek. Some accepted licenses are from RYA, ASA, IYT, but they need to be valid for sailing boats. In order to avoid unlucky circumstances of  rejection of your sailing license, you can send it to us before your booking, to evaluate it and be on the safe side!

3.What is included in the bareboat price?

A bareboat charter includes the right to use the agreed boat type along with its inventory list, VAT 12%, dinghy, 1x full spare bottle of cooking gas, 1 set per person bed linen and towels, insurance (for the yacht and third-party liability, the passengers and sea pollution), port fees for the day of embarkation and disembarkation (base port), 24-hour emergency service.

4.What is not included in the bareboat price?

The bareboat price doesn’t include fuel & water consumption, optional extras (upon request) such as skipper, hostess, outboard, sup paddle, wifi, berthing fees (expect days in Kavala port), provisioning, transfers and personal expenses.

5.Check in and check out of a bareboat charter.

All weekly bareboat charters are normally offered Saturday to Saturday. The usual check in hour is 17:00 and check out at 09:00. The charterer has to return the day before the check out in the base port (around 18:00-19:00) in order for the base manager to make the check out and repair any damages before the next charter. Different hours and days of embarkation and disembarkation can be offered upon request and availability.

6.What are the check in/check out procedures for a bareboat charter?

When you reach our base, the base manager will escort you to your yacht. There , the captain and the co captain will be asked to sign the necessary documents such as the crew list, the charter party, declaration of co captain’s experience if there is no second license. Afterwards the base manager will make the yacht’s briefing (yacht systems, inventory, safety equipment). You can also discuss with our team the sailing itineraries of the area, and take some advice for anchorages, weather conditions and places for eating.

During the check in, you will also be asked to pay the security deposit that matches the yacht. The deposit can be paid with cash or card (visa, mastercard). This amount is in the unlikely event that there is damage in the yacht during your charter. The deposit is fully returned back right after the check out.

The check out procedure is like the check in, only that this time, the captain and co-captain will show the yacht is the base manager, and he can inspect all the equipment. There you will also have the chance to propose ideas and suggestions regarding the yacht, the company’s operation as long as your review for your charter experience with us.

7.What happens if there is an emergency during my bareboat charter?

Kavala Yachting offers 24/7 support. You can contact your base manager via telephone, what’s up or viber, for any technical issue that may occur during your trip, or for any area or weather advice. It's always suggested to contact your base manager first.
